Wrestling History: July 6, 1998

Let’s take a look back at a couple old wrestling shows. Why? Because I feel like it, that’s why. That got sort of combative there, sorry. Anyway, here’s a look at a show from 21 years ago, July 6, 1998. It’s more significant than you think.

  • BRAWL FOR ALL Savio Vega defeated Brakkus

He looks thrilled
  • Ken Shamrock defeated Jeff Jarrett by DQ
  • Vader vs Bradshaw ended in a No Contest
  • Disciples of Apocalypse defeated The Headbangers
A modern classic
  • D’Lo Brown defeated Terry Funk
  • BRAWL FOR ALL Hawk vs Darren Drozdov ended in a Draw

  • Val Venis defeated Dustin Runnels by DQ
  • Ken Shamrock defeated Mabel

  • The Undertaker defeated Mankind and Kane

RAW Rating: 4.0

Nitro Rating: 4.8

Now what was an…ok show. Nothing Earth-shattering, but not bad. Sure, it had Brawl for All creeping its ugly little head out, but it wasn’t all roses in the Attitude Era.

So what did Nitro schedule against this show? The usual, Scott Putski defeated Scotty Riggs, The Public Enemy defeated Disco Inferno and Alex Wright, and oh yeah, GOLDBERG BEAT HOLLYWOOD HOGAN. Yup, opposite of this pretty good show was the famous Georgia Dome show where a green fire-breathing Jewish dragon defeated Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Title. So yeah, WCW won that night. And RAW…they had Brakkus.
